A history of commerce

A palazzo made to welcome.

Demetrio Carciotti was a merchant. When he built his palazzo on the waterfront, he intended the ground floor for trade: warehouses and shops for the goods that arrived by sea. Along the balustrade he set the figures of Commerce, Abundance and Fortune.

1805
The Palazzo is completed, with its Ionic columns, copper dome and a ground floor open to the trade of the port.
1832
The first offices of Assicurazioni Generali, founded in Trieste the year before, are established here.
Today
Generali is bringing Palazzo Carciotti back to life. Its ground floor is returning to the purpose for which it was originally conceived.

An old doorway becomes a shop window.

An entrance sealed long ago will open once again. A simple yet powerful gesture: Palazzo Carciotti opens itself to the city, to the canal and to all who arrive. Beyond this threshold, a new space awaits your business.

The location

Where Trieste welcomes Central Europe.

Trieste cannot be measured by its residents alone. Every day the city welcomes shoppers from Austria, Slovenia and Croatia in search of quality, along with visitors who stroll along the waterfront down to the sea.

Palazzo Carciotti stands exactly there, where the Canal Grande meets the waterfront: the point at which the city reveals itself to all who arrive.
